Meet Cedar...

Cedar was a young draft horse who came here to WCHS in March of 2002. He was severely underweight and malnourished, and had a basketball-sized cancerous tumor near his groin. By the time we learned of his plight it was too late to save him. Despite his pain and suffering, Cedar remained gentle and kind to the end, enduring his treatments with grace and dignity. All of us who had been privileged to meet him were heartbroken to lose him. At least we knew, though, that he didn't suffer the added horror of being sent off to an auction and ultimately to slaughter.
Our experience with Cedar awakened us to the sad reality that there is a desperate need for horse rescue services here in central Ohio. We have resolved to honor Cedar's memory by making a place for horses and other equines in need at our shelter farm. Our shelter farm is now equipped to house and care for any equine (horse, donkeys, mules) in need, and, as we do with dogs and cats, we will take in any equine at any time, no questions asked and at no charge. We hope that all horse lovers will help us continue to help even more horses and other equines in need by contributing to "Cedar's Fund."
